Thank you to everyone who took the time to submit their naming ideas for the new Leduc high school! The submission period has now ended.
The Naming Committee will create a shortlist from all submissions received for the Board of Trustees to review and select the winning name, which will be announced on March 13, 2022.
The winning name submission will receive a Black Gold Prize Pack!

Black Gold School Division is building a new 1,121 student Grade 10-12 high school at the intersection of 69 Street and 50 Avenue in south-west Leduc. The project is expected to break ground in early May 2022.

Black Gold School Division is building a new 1,121 student Grade 10-12 high school at the intersection of 69 Street and 50 Avenue in south-west Leduc. The project is expected to break ground in early May 2022.
The bright and airy 1,121 student school will feature new and increased programming options for Leduc-area students. It will feature an industrial/commercial kitchen for a culinary arts program, dedicated spaces for robotics, 3D printing and design/merchandising, video broadcasting and production, and horticultural/agricultural studies. There will be an art kiln for the ceramics program, an outdoor classroom, and there are plans in place to expand the school and gymnasium to a future capacity of 1,600 students.
As per our Administrative Policy 541: Naming of Facilities, where possible, new facilities will be assigned names before construction begins, so we need your help to name this new school!
A School Naming Committee has been set up to receive nominations from the public for the school name from January 10 until February 10, 2022. The Committee will then narrow down the submissions to a shortlist of names to recommend to the Board of Trustees. The Board will announce the winning name on March 16, 2022, and the winning submission will receive a Black Gold Prize Pack!
As per AP 541, we’re looking for names that:
- Have significance for the students, parents and the community of the particular facility
- Be easily identifiable with the facility
- Not be in conflict with the names of other facilities in the Division or surrounding districts
- Have historical and/or cultural significance (e.g. Indigenous/First Nations, local/regional history, etc.)
- Be appropriate in terms of copyright and trademark provisions

Below are some ideas to get your creative juices flowing. You can submit:
- Names of people who have made a valuable contribution to the Black Gold school community and to public education, or to the community
- Those who represent and promote diversity and inclusion in the community (e.g. Indigenous/First Nations names, etc.)
- Names that have special significance to the community where the school is located, including community names
- Names of persons generally recognized as having made a significant, positive contribution to society, the community, province, or country
- Historically or culturally significant names for the school community
- Names of the area the school will serve
- Name of the street/avenue on which the school is located

Jordan Peterson is an incredibly positive and powerful influence in the modern world. He has one of the most popular podcasts currently in the world, as well as millions and millions of YouTube views. He has authored 2 books which have also become New York Times Best Sellers. His openness to ideas and willingness to respectfully debate and critically think, embodies education at the highest level. He grew up in Fairview Alberta, attended and taught at the University of Alberta, as well as the University of Toronto. He is currently on a world wide speaking tour starting in Europe, continuing in the USA, and finishing in Canada. His message is most relatable to young individuals trying to find their way in life. In 1957, the Griffiths immigrated to Canada, living in parts of Saskatchewan before settling in Leduc, Alberta. Dr. Audrey practiced medicine in England, Northern Ireland, Leduc (Alberta) and Lesotho (southern Africa). She was very committed to public service both in her community and her province. She sat on many boards including Leduc’s Library, Recreation and County School Board. As a school trustee, Audrey became president of the Alberta School Trustees Association and executive of the Canadian School Trustees Association. Dr. Griffiths was also a member of the World University Service of Canada board of directors and its Alberta committee. Audrey was a life-long traveler, gardener, reader and student. She studied the history, culture, geography and botany of everywhere that she traveled Dr. Griffiths passed in 2008 and is remembered for her generosity and compassion.
